ENSURING ACCURACY
Because a CMMS is seen primarily as a reporting
tool, the accuracy of data entry is critical to
successful CMMS implementation.
One tactic used by data entry companies is to have
two different data entry personnel keying in the
same data. By comparing the two different entries,
the chances of mistype are reduced. This is similar
to how some applications and websites requires passwords
to be typed twice to ensure that the first entry
is correct.
However, to have extra personnel for entry may not
be advantages to most maintenance department who
have already huge cost issues. But the concept of
double entry may still be relevant for selected
pieces of information.
Let’s say for example "problem descriptions" are
important to an organization. This field should
then be keyed in twice to ensure accuracy.
This can easily be achieved in CWorks because CWorks
comes with source codes thus copying the field and
table columns to add an extra one is easily done.
Another strategy for accurate data entry is to lock
a field to only receive entry from a pick list.
