It is interesting to note that most low-cost airlines cite the reduction of maintenance cost as a major contributing factor in their ability to offer cheaper fares.

If one were to look further into this claim, one will find that this lower cost of maintenance is achieved from standardizing the type of planes to as few as possible, thus reducing the need to carry a large range of resources such as spares and expertise.

Standardization of equipment type also reduces the complexities of maintenance management by reducing the variety of information that needs to be tracked and managed.

In order to help with this standardization, CWorks CMMS can be used to allow for efficient collection of the equipment type data and to report it in an easy way so as to easily decide on what can be standardize.
